The SALT Project’s travel grant program 2023-24 is open to any publisher that publishes in English and is based outside of South Asia. (South Asia, for the purposes of this project, includes Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.)
If this describes you, SALT invites you to apply by submitting a one-page statement making the case for any research or development activities you plan, and summarizing how these activities will further SALT’s goals. Possibilities are legion, but could include meeting with local publishers, scouting for local authors at book festivals, or doing a big bookshop tour. Please send your application to email@example.com, subject line “publisher travel grant application,” by 15 September 2023. Eight grants of $1,600 will be awarded.

30 June 2024 Travel to be completed by this date
SALT’s intention is to support a broad range of diverse publishing activity. In addition to the individual merits of the applications, SALT may weigh characteristics such as (for example) range of geography or genre when allocating the eight grants.
Fulfilling the terms of the grant
Publishers/awardees must complete their planned activities by 30 June 2024. Reports are due within one month of completion.
Once they have completed their travels and their reports, publishers will be offered additional funds (up to $800) in order to commission reader reports.
In 2024-25, 2025-26, and 2026-27, SALT plans to continue this program for publishers, and to add a travel-grant program for translators. Grant cycles for both publishers and translators may shift to a rolling basis at SALT’s discretion.
Please write to firstname.lastname@example.org, subject line “publisher travel grant question.”
