South Asian Literature in Translation (the SALT Project) is pleased to announce SummerSALT, a weeklong residential summer school for emerging translators from South Asian languages. The school will be held August 5-9, 2024, in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The application process was extremely competitive, and forty-one applicants were selected. SALT is delighted to bring these emerging translators together with the resources, experiences, and networks that can move their work forward.

SummerSALT will include five workshops:

  • Bangla, led by Arunava Sinha, with guest writer Shaheen Akhtar
  • Hindi-Urdu, led by Daisy Rockwell, with guest writer Asghar Wajahat
  • Tamil, led by Sumathy Sivamohan, with guest writer Sivanu Manoharan
  • Multilingual poetry, led by Ranjit Hoskote
  • Multilingual prose, led by Tejaswini Niranjana

The multilingual groups include students working from Gujarati, Kannada, Kashmiri, Marathi, Pali, Panjabi, Sinhala, and Telugu; applications were welcomed from students working from any South Asian language.
